Strength TogetHER 10- Session 2

19th December, 2020.

“Embrace the glorious mess that you are”

With the motto of ‘girl supporting girls’, LOKOPAKAR, a youth development organization is currently running “Strength togetHER”, a safe virtual space where girls from different backgrounds come together and share their stories. We believe in rising ourselves by lifting up others.

After the successful introductory session, we moved to our second session on 19th of December 2020 that went on with active participation and amazing interaction on the topic ‘Imperfectly Perfect’.

Our session was moderated by Simran Khatri, a fresh graduate of Bachelors in Development Studies who has been working in the field of development as she aspires to spread awareness among women and children in different issues such as Menstrual Hygiene Management, Consent, and Leadership etc. through Global Peace Foundation Nepal. She is also a member of Global Peace Women (GPW), Nepal and Hatti Hatti Nepal.

Our topic of coverage revolved mostly around our physical appearances, so natural yet made us to feel so imperfect. Our speakers shared stories about how physical imperfections have made them feel imperfect in so many ways impaction on self-confidence and self-acceptance. One of our speakers highlighted on how her body fat has made her victim of bullying and being teased for that she tried so hard to go on dieting and losing weight. Another speaker shared her journey of stammering and communication problem and how people commenting on her stammering and sympathizing. Two of our other speakers talked about self-love, confidence and acceptance. We also talked about how perfection is a myth and yet we tend to search perfection is us.

After hearing from all the speakers and some interaction, we then listened to our moderator and took some very important messages back home. Some key notes to address after the session are:

  • Imperfections does not necessarily always associate with our appearance but sometimes also about

  • We all have faults and it’s important to address them and work on.

  • Avoiding wrong situation and accepting compliments.

  • Procrastinating in a good way is healthy.

  • Do not ever surrender in front “Perfectionism”

To conclude, “Let’s celebrate our flaws and learn to love them.”
